Packing…..

Even though my big trip to Europe is still several weeks away, I can’t help but already be thinking a lot about packing.

I have to be able to get my life into a suitcase and a carry-on, and have just those items to get me by for seven weeks. I know that for some people this kind of task is rather easy. I am not one of those people. Packing for summer trips is at least easIER – summer clothes take up so little room. But winter is incredibly tricky to pack for. Sweaters take up a bunch of room in a suitcase. Plus, I have to think about packing for so many different situations. I’ll have outdoor exploring time. (Need to take my snow boots and hard core snow gear for when I meet up with some people in the Austrian Alps for a few days.) Then I need every-day casual attire, audition outfits, cute stuff to wear out for social outings. And shoes for all of those types of outfits. And my music. And my laptop and other electronic devices. And make-up. And toiletries.

I’ve decided that all outfits will have to be able to be worn with black shoes. (Of which I’ll take several styles.) That will keep things easily match-able, and will help to streamline the shoe situation overall. But the girly-girl in me is sad to not bring my awesome brown boots and the clothes I could rock with them. But that’s okay. Seven weeks sounds long, but in the grand scheme of things, it’s really just a drop in the bucket. I can be without my brown-shoe-outfits for seven weeks. I’ll just wear them a bunch before I go! (haha!)

I’m also a bit worried about the weight limit on my suitcase. I’ll have to keep an eye on that as I pack – and perhaps invest in a scale so I can weigh it before hand. I just know that jeans weigh a lot….

But the packing element to any trip is always a weird sort of fun for me. I really like putting together outfits to wear and seeing how different items will work together. The planner in me is just in her element in these kinds of situations!

So here’s a question….. anyone have any favorite packing tips that you just LOVE? I’d be very interested in hearing them!

  1. I just got some packing cubes. They are little fabric cubes that you can pack, (blouses in one, underwear in another etc.) Or, you could pack each cube with a different outfit. Then you just pack the cubes in your suitcase. I haven’t tried them yet. Seems like a great idea, (which is why I bought them), but I already know that they should come in a variety of sizes.
