I am motivated to write this post, which I plan to keep brief, as I spend another part of my day sitting in a Starbucks using their wifi.
“Why?”, you ask.
The storm from the weekend took out our power, and here we are – Thursday – and I still have no power at home. PPL is saying that perhaps by 11pm tonight we might get it back.
But it certainly makes a person realize how much we can take such things for granted! I could do without the lights – really – I could get by. But the whole no water and no internet is really a problem. As a travel agent, I work on the internet all the time when I’m researching trips, making bookings, or contacting clients. It’s also the season for everyone inquiring into Christmas carolers. I’m getting daily emails there and trying to keep up with everything, despite the fact that I can’t print out any documents or contracts. I also can’t fax anything, as the trees took down the phone lines as well.
This is the longest I’ve ever had to go without power. I know we lost it a few times during big storms when I was a kid – but that was maybe a day or two at the most. And there wasn’t the internet back when I was a kid, so that wasn’t something that effected us.
I just know that once that power comes back on, I will be so grateful and so much more appreciative of my access to it!
On that note…. come on PPL! Please get to our road soon!
