Tales of excellent adventures!

The holiday season has kept life super busy, so I haven’t had a chance to report about any of the adventures Miloš and I had while he was here for his visit.   No time like the present to get this ball rolling!  (And I just finished with wrapping Christmas presents and need some good distraction!)

Miloš got here the day after Thanksgiving.  I have to admit it was a little surreal driving to Newark to pick him up at the airport.  (And you know me, I had gone back and forth so many times on which of my cute outfits to wear for when I picked him up.  In the end, I went with a cute little striped short dress and some killer heels. 🙂 )  Plus, we had had a lot of stress in the two weeks leading up to his trip.   I won’t begin to even go into the trials and tribulations he had to go through to get his Visa to come for his visit, but I am completely shocked and disgusted at what the US makes people do just to get a tourist Visa to visit our country.  The paperwork and expense involved is beyond ridiculous.  And for a brief few days there, we didn’t even think he was going to be able to get it.  (Yeah, didn’t get much sleep THAT week….)

Once  I arrived at the airport, I followed the signs to the international arrivals and got comfortable in a seat at the end of the row where I could easily see and be seen.  I didn’t want to miss him in case there was a crowd of people.  It had been just over three months since we had last seen each other in Croatia, but fortunately, the fall had been so busy that those three months went by rather quickly.  My show had just ended the weekend before Thanksgiving (I was singing the role of Adele in Fledermaus) and caroling season had already started.  I got there with plenty of time  – with about an hour to kill, so I got comfy and read my Glamour magazine to try to distract myself from my antsy excitement.  I kept looking up at the board that was listing the flight arrivals.  When his was listed as Arrived, I got even MORE unable to sit still – haha!  Then when we saw each other as he came walking through the arrival gate, his enormous adorable smile just warmed my heart and made me happy all over.  I was happy, he was happy – there was just a whole lot of happy.  🙂

Before long, we were in my car and on our way to my house in PA.  It’s a little over an hour away, so we had some time to chat in the car.  But I’ll be honest – I don’t remember much of what we talked about.  I was just so elated that he was finally here!  I know I said to him a few times that I couldn’t believe he was finally here.  And he agreed – and said he couldn’t believe he was back in the US again, as it had been a number of years since his last time in this country.

We got to my house, unloaded some stuff, and he was able to say hi to my parents while they were still up.  They had met him when we were all on that cruise a year and a half ago (where Miloš and I first met), but obviously hadn’t seen him since.  Shortly thereafter, we headed out for a late dinner.  (The man can eat, let me tell you that.)  Meal of choice?  Steak, of course!  (Anyone who read about our adventures in Croatia knows that.)  Being that we’re in Quakertown, our gourmet options were a bit limited, so we played it simple and safe and went to TGI Fridays – besides, I had a really good coupon!  He was impressed with our Fridays, as his experience with the one from his last time in the States was not good.

Anyway, we had some time at home that weekend – which included going out dancing with all of my cousins Saturday night for my one cousin’s birthday.  We all had a fabulous time!  It was a blast all the way!  And my little nieces stayed over that night, so earlier in the day when he met them, Miloš won them over by giving them each their own Star Wars Lego keychain.  (The girls love Legos AND Star Wars.)

But since we only had three and a half weeks together on this visit, with LOTS to squeeze in, we hit the road already on that Sunday after Thanksgiving.  Where to for our first road trip?  Boston!!!  I hadn’t been back to Beantown since I finished grad school (got my Masters at New England Conservatory) and I’d been itching to go back for a long time.  And Miloš was definitely interested in visiting, so our plans were laid!  I had found us a fantastic deal on two nights in a hotel, so we were good to go!  But all things Boston will be the next blog entry.  For now, it’s time for me to get some shut-eye.  Stay tuned for lots of adventures in the northeast US!

Here’s a few pics from our fun night out with my cousins….
