Traveling Europe via Cruise Ship Job

Hi readers!  Well, it’s been two weeks of working with passengers on board our river ship.  I should first mention to new readers that a river cruise ship is NOTHING like a big ocean cruise ship.  We work on a smaller ship that travels the rivers of Europe.  Right now, we’ve got 46 crew members and have the capacity for approx. 160 guests.

Our first cruise was a “Tulip Cruise” which started and ended in Amsterdam, with stops in Belgium and various other cities back in the Netherlands.  Then we started down the Rhine River (on an itinerary called “The Romantic Rhine” cruise) and will switch over to new guests tomorrow in Basel, Switzerland.  It’s been lots of work.  Miloš and I cover the reception desk during the day – from 7am to 9pm every day. Some of the time we’re there together, and then of course, now that I’m getting more comfortable at the desk alone, we work some break periods into that time frame.   The only big downside is that we can’t take breaks together.  One of us has to be at the desk.  So our together time is either working at the desk, or away from the desk after 9pm.  But at least it’s everyday!  No stretches apart!  🙂 We had our first crew show the other night, and I got to sing as part of the program.  It went great!  I sang “Poor Wand’ring One” from the Pirates of Penzance.  And I even passed out some business cards for Olde Towne Carolers to some of the American guests who wanted to know more about my singing.  We’ve had some great guests on board – one couple even bought me flowers – it was so sweet of them!   I thought I’d post some pics from a few destinations so far.  Enjoy!
