After our normal routine of sleeping in (neither of us are morning people), our fourth day in Zadar (Monday) involved another visit to Giardin for some yummy pizza. (And more bottled Coke of course!)
We decided that on this day we were going to head the opposite direction along the shore – south – via the Old Town peninsula; and just decide where to stop as we went along.
Once inside the city walls, we decided to do the tourist pic thing. (And probably stopped for ice cream again! Haha!)
We continued walking to the sea-side part of the peninsula and just decided to lay our towels out along the wall that was the edge of the water. There were smatterings of people all along this long stretch, with stairways leading out of the water spaced out evenly and slightly far apart. No beach this time, but the high edge made for some fun and often silly jumps into the water.
We had a variety of “neighbors” on either side of us as the day went on, including a German family with a hilarious dog that was having the absolute BEST day swimming and playing!
Finally, it was time to head back, and we walked the long way around again – past the old marina section and through the ancient city gate.
We stopped at the market and got some chocolate and….. wait for it……. wait for it…… Coke! Then we walked through the old city streets, as I snapped pics along the way.
Eventually we decided to grab some dinner, and be unoriginal about it – pizza. But alas, the pizza we had was SO inferior to Giardin’s excellent offerings.
But you don’t always know which places are going to be good or bad until you try, right?
Of course we spent a little more time comparing our tans. Well, it was more noticing just how much more tan than me Miloš always was. (He’s got that Mediterranean blood in him, I’m mostly German with some English and Scottish thrown in. I’d say I tan pretty darn well for someone with so much northern blood! Besides, I did notice that my hands don’t tan as much as the rest of me.)
We walked back to the middle of Old Town, then headed back to the hotel. I snapped this great shot as we passed through….
We eventually headed back out that night and went to the bar that we had found the day before – Ledana. It was actually really cool – located on the top of the city walls over by the end near the ancient city gate. There were several seating areas. We grabbed some spots on low lying cushions that were surrounding a table positioned right on the stony area, next to the walking path. The table had a light inside it, casting a bit of a glow around the table area. There were also regular tables in another section. But this place had a really nice ambiance. There was subtle lighting everywhere that created just enough radiance, but also seemed to blend into the surroundings. And it wasn’t too loud, so we could easily hear each other talk. I ordered a Mai Tai, and Miloš helped me to drink it, due to my light-weight nature when it comes to alcohol.
We hung out at the bar for awhile, then left and went to….surprise – the Greeting to the Sun! What can I say, it was such a fun place to go! And we always got such great pictures there!
And whoever took our pic this night was pretty good with centering the photo and everything. They were our best photographer of the whole trip, as we both really liked this pic!
Next up…. our day in Saharun! The best beach we went to!
