Spring, Love, and Weddings!

I see it’s been awhile since my last blog post, so I thought I’d just check in and wish everyone a happy spring!  (Now let’s get some spring weather already!) The most important news for May: The final countdown is on – the big day is just weeks away!  Milos and I have almost everything … Read more

Engaged!

Happy belated Valentine’s Day everyone!   Well, my Facebook friends are already well aware of our big announcement from this past Friday…  Miloš and I got engaged! Friday the 13th is a lucky day after all! 🙂   I can’t say I didn’t know it was coming – we had already started the process of … Read more

Old Journals, memories, and soul mates…

Last night before bed, I found my old journal when I was cleaning out one of my dresser drawers.  It was a gift from dear friends three years ago before I headed overseas for that first long trip abroad.  It kind of became the secret place where I wrote down my deepest thoughts during that whole trip.  It … Read more

Missing you is all I do…

Miloš and I are in the middle of our longest stretch apart this year: three weeks.  I know that compared to the three month stretches we used to be forced to endure, three weeks is practically nothing.  But I can tell you that having to live through it is certainly not nothing.  We miss each other, dammit! … Read more

Hello insomnia, my old friend…

Hi all!  It’s 3:00am!  I’m laying in bed!  I’m awake!

Ugh.

Actually, I fell asleep early for a bit (due to my ongoing problem of falling asleep after 3:00am every night this past week), but then woke up and now my brain is going and going, and keeping me awake…

Thinking of my to-do’s: the prepping for my class this week, the new travel clients I’m helping, my little presentation gig, all the prep work for this year’s Christmas caroling season, etc, etc…. (shut up, brain!)

“Home” is not a place.

The choice of paths we take in life are not clear cut black and white, or right or wrong.  They’re all kinds of blurry and multi-colored.  One path is not the road of disaster and doom, while the other is not all sunshine, light, and happiness.   ALL paths have opposite elements in various amounts and quantities.  Our decisions are based on choosing the path with the greater percentage of happiness based on the things that are the most important to us.

Stop and Smell the Awesome

Sometimes life gets the best of us and we end up giving in to negative feelings, or feelings of frustration and hopelessness.  As humans, we can often get stuck wallowing in our own sad sorry feelings for a little while.  We lose sight of the special small moments because the big picture seems all too overwhelming and challenging.  And hey, I’m human, I try NOT to go there, but I sometimes do.  It happens.  Life is a roller coaster ride, and sometimes we can handle it better than other times.  But we have a choice – we have control over how we handle each situation put in front of us.  We get to decide what we are going to do, how we are going to react.

And just like that…

It’s been awhile, but here’s another train blog entry from yours truly!

I’m beginning this entry while sitting at passport control at some station called Dobova at the border of Croatia and Slovenia.  As always, the passport people either give me the third degree, or they inspect my passport at great lengths – looking at all my many stamps.  This time, I even had TWO inspectors check it out.  Not sure what that’s all about.  I know I’m not the only American with this many stamps in my passport.

Anyway, we’re now out of Croatia and in Slovenia.  This morning, Miloš’ mom picked us up at 3:50am so we could go to Zagreb and drop him off at the airport.  (Needless to say, we didn’t really sleep.)  After he got through security, I got a cab to the train station so I could hop on a train and head back to Vienna.
